Brodick - Glencloy Trail Race
Despite the challenges of Covid, a truly international race was held in Brodick on Sunday 15 August. The race started from the old post office garage in Auchrannie Road, ran over a clockwise trail and forest track around the Mayish and the Fairy Glen through the forest trails and returned to the start via Glencloy, covering a distance of some 10 kilometres.
Some 35 runners out of an expected 57 set off at 14.30 and enjoyed a spectacular and fast race with the added challenge of Crocodiles in Mayish and Horses joining in in Glencloy.
The race was won by returning super athlete Jennifer Wetton of Arran Runners in a time of 38 minutes 49 secs beating Matt Reedy of Ambleside Athletics Club who followed closely in 39 minutes 24 secs.
The competitors joined the race from all over the world. Entrants from England, New Zealand, Poland, Germany, Italy, Romania and even Lamlash enjoyed a good Arran welcome and the race was well supported by the Arran community, both as spectators, and as competitors.
Special thanks to those who acted as stewards for the event, ABC Arran Training who provided First Aid Cover and to Ernest Ribbeck who kindly allowed us to use his car park.
The race was organised as the first in a series of trail races by Arran Runners with permission from Scottish Athletics and Forestry Scotland

In common with the last few races this was an international event.

The race was run with permission of Forest Scotland and the certification of Scottish Athletics, thanks are due to them and to Messrs Irving, Hamilton and Woods for permitting use of their ground and to Andrew Dickie for the use of his garden as finishing line.
ABC Training again supplied first aid cover and we are indebted to Chris and to the merry band of very professional stewards who assisted at the event.
